Ovaltine is a globally recognized brand of milk flavoring supplement made with malt extract, sugar, and whey. Founded in Switzerland in 1904, it was originally named Ovomaltine from the Latin 'ovum' (egg) and 'malt'. Over a century later, the brand is produced in multiple countries to satisfy local market demands. The Canadian version pictured is commonly manufactured within Canada.
The brand's ownership is split geographically; in North America, the rights are owned by Nestlé, which acquired the US and Canadian business in 2002. Internationally, the brand is owned by Associated British Foods (ABF), which acquired the global rights from Novartis. This dual-ownership structure means that while the brand heritage is Swiss, its corporate governance and production facilities are managed by multi-billion dollar conglomerates based in Switzerland (for North America) and the United Kingdom (for the rest of the world).
