Lätta is a well-known brand of low-fat margarine and spreads, widely recognized in Sweden and Germany. It was originally introduced in Sweden in 1984 by the Margarinbolaget, a group involving Unilever. The brand was created to offer a lighter alternative to traditional butter, utilizing buttermilk to enhance its texture and flavor while maintaining a lower fat content.
In 2018, Unilever sold its global spreads business to the private equity firm KKR, leading to the formation of Upfield (recently rebranded as Flora Food Group). Today, Lätta is a key brand under Upfield's portfolio. Historically, production for the Nordic market took place in Helsingborg, Sweden, but manufacturing has recently been consolidated into other European facilities, such as the plant in Kleve, Germany, following corporate restructuring to optimize production for the global market.
