Chromecast is a line of digital media players developed by Google. This specific model, 'Chromecast with Google TV', was launched in late 2020 as a significant upgrade to the original Chromecast dongle, integrating a dedicated remote and a full operating system (Google TV) to replace the previously 'cast-only' interface.
The hardware is designed in the United States at Google's headquarters in Mountain View. To diversify its supply chain away from historical reliance on China, Google moved a significant portion of its Nest and Chromecast production to Thailand.
Ownership remains strictly under Google, which reorganized under the parent holding company Alphabet Inc. in 2015. Alphabet handles the diverse technological investments and physical hardware development of the Google brand, maintaining its status as one of the world's most dominant multinational technology conglomerates.
