Infineon Technologies AG was originally the semiconductor division of the German conglomerate Siemens AG. In 1999, it was spun off as a separate legal entity to focus specifically on the growing microelectronics market. Historically, the brand has been a pioneer in power electronics, automotive safety systems, and secure identification solutions.

Manufacturing and Global Presence

As a global leader in semiconductors, Infineon operates a complex manufacturing network. Its front-end production facilities—where silicon wafers are processed—are primarily located in Germany (Dresden and Regensburg), Austria (Villach), and Malaysia (Kulim). Back-end facilities, which handle assembly and testing, are situated across Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, and China. This diverse geographical footprint ensures resilience in the global supply chain.

Ownership and Corporate Structure

Infineon is a publicly traded company listed on the Frankfurt Stock Exchange (IFX). Unlike many consumer brands owned by larger parent corporations, Infineon acts as its own ultimate owner. It has expanded its portfolio significantly through strategic acquisitions, most notably the purchase of International Rectifier in 2015 and Cypress Semiconductor in 2020, solidifying its position as a top-tier provider to the automotive and industrial sectors.
