Makro is a prominent international brand of warehouse clubs, also known as cash and carry stores. The brand's journey began in the Netherlands during the late 1960s, designed to serve professional customers and businesses with high-volume goods at competitive prices. Over several decades, the brand expanded aggressively across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, though its ownership has since been fractured into different regional entities.

Today, the ownership of the Makro brand is divided geographically following various divestments by the original founders. In Europe, the majority of Makro operations (excluding specific countries like the UK) are owned and operated by METRO AG. In Thailand and parts of Southeast Asia, the brand is owned by CP Axtra (formerly Siam Makro), part of the Charoen Pokphand Group. In South America, operations are managed by SHV Holdings. This distributed ownership model means that while the brand identity remains consistent, the strategic direction and supply chains are managed by different ultimate parent companies based on the region.

Because Makro is a retail service provider rather than a single physical product, its 'manufacturing' is represented by its global network of distribution centers and retail hubs. Each regional owner sources products both locally and internationally to stock their shelves, ensuring that the Makro name remains a staple in the global wholesale and retail landscape.
