Água das Pedras, commonly known as Pedras Salgadas, is a naturally sparkling mineral water with a rich history dating back to the Roman era. The springs are located in the region of Vila Pouca de Aguiar in northern Portugal. Commercial exploitation began in the late 19th century after the water was recognized for its unique properties, eventually receiving several international awards for its quality.
The brand is a prominent part of Portuguese culture and is known for being '100% naturally carbonated,' meaning the gas occurs naturally from the source rather than being added during bottling. The manufacturing process remains centered squarely at the original source in the Pedras Salgadas thermal park in Portugal.
Today, the brand is owned by Super Bock Group, the largest Portuguese beverage producer. While the Super Bock Group is a major Portuguese entity, it is a joint-venture partnership where the Carlsberg Group, a Danish multinational company, holds a significant equity stake (44%), with the remaining majority held by Viacer. This ownership structure ensures the brand maintains its Portuguese heritage while benefiting from international distribution networks.
