Dr. Martens, often colloquially referred to as 'Docs,' is an iconic British footwear brand known for its air-cushioned soles and yellow stitching. Originally developed as a durable work boot by Dr. Klaus Märtens in Germany following World War II, the patent was later acquired by the R. Griggs Group in the United Kingdom, who localized the brand and turned it into a cultural staple.

Starting in 1960, the brand became heavily associated with various subcultures and fashion movements globally. While the brand maintains a 'Made in England' heritage line produced at their original Wollaston factory, the vast majority of commercial production was moved to Asia in the early 2000s. Today, manufacturing takes place primarily in Vietnam, China, Thailand, and Laos.

The brand underwent significant corporate changes in the 21st century. It was acquired by the private equity firm Permira in 2014 and subsequently went public on the London Stock Exchange in 2021. It remains headquartered in London, overseeing a global distribution network that includes several flagship retail stores and partnerships with major international distributors.
