Cross is an iconic American brand of writing instruments, founded in 1846 by Richard Cross in Providence, Rhode Island. It is one of the oldest manufacturers of pens in the Western world and gained fame for its high-quality mechanical pencils and fountain pens, often associated with American presidents.

While the brand maintains its headquarters and design operations in the United States, high-volume production lines like the Bailey series have largely moved to China to maintain competitive pricing. In 2013, the company was acquired by Clarion Capital Partners and was later sold to Transom Capital Group in 2017 to continue its growth in the luxury gift market.
