Den Gamle Fabrik (The Old Factory) is a quintessential Danish brand with a history dating back to 1834. Founded by J.L. Andersen, the brand began its journey in the basement of a shop in Copenhagen, focusing on traditional marmalade and jam production. Over nearly two centuries, it has become one of Scandinavia's most recognized fruit spread brands, celebrated for its 'open kettle' cooking process that preserves the texture and flavor of the fruit.
While the brand remains deeply rooted in Danish culinary heritage and continues to manufacture products in Denmark, its ownership has evolved. Originally a family-run enterprise, it became part of the Orkla Group in the 1990s. Today, it remains under the stewardship of Orkla, a leading Norwegian conglomerate specializing in consumer goods, ensuring that the traditional Danish recipes are distributed across international markets.
