Philadelphia cream cheese is a globally recognized brand that originated in New York in 1872 and was named after the city of Philadelphia, which was then known for high-quality dairy. While it was initially developed by William Lawrence under the Empire Cheese Company, the brand became a cornerstone of the Kraft Foods portfolio. For the European market, specifically in DACH regions (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), Philadelphia is manufactured in localized production facilities, notably in Fallingbostel, Germany. Ownership transitioned during the 2012 Kraft Foods split, where the brand landed under Mondelez International for most international markets outside of North America. Today, Mondelez International manages the brand's production and marketing in Europe, while Kraft Heinz retains ownership in the United States and Canada.
