DigiD digital identity service

DigiD stands for Digital Identity and is a secure authentication system used in the Netherlands by government agencies and healthcare providers. It was developed to allow citizens to access online services securely using a single set of login credentials.

Unlike consumer goods, DigiD is a governmental digital infrastructure service. It is developed and managed by Logius, the digital government service of the Netherlands Ministry of the Interior and Kingdom Relations. The service ensures that personal data remains secure while facilitating transactions with the tax authorities, pension funds, and insurance companies.

The technical development and hosting of DigiD occur strictly within the Netherlands to comply with national security and privacy regulations. As a public service, it is not owned by a private corporation but is an essential component of the Dutch e-government strategy.
