Despite its Italian-sounding name, the brand was founded in France in 1950 by Jean Panzani, an entrepreneur of Italian descent who pioneered the use of cellophane packaging to showcase the quality of his products.

Today, Panzani products are primarily manufactured in France, utilizing local wheat and factories located within the country to satisfy its position as the market leader in the French pasta sector. The brand underwent a significant ownership change recently. After being part of the Spanish group Ebro Foods for many years, Panzani was acquired in 2021 by CVC Capital Partners, a global private equity firm. The brand continues to operate with its main headquarters in Lyon, France.
