Estrella is a classic brand deeply rooted in Swedish snack history, originally established in 1946 by Folke Andersson after a journey to New York where he became inspired by the popularity of potato chips. The brand name, meaning 'star' in Spanish, reflects its origin in South American banana imports where the name was first registered. While the snacks are famously produced in Angered, Gothenburg, many specialty items like peanut butter are manufactured in partnership with facilities in the Netherlands.

Today, Estrella is no longer locally owned. Since 2014, it has been part of Intersnack Group, a major European snack food manufacturer headquartered in Germany. This transition has consolidated the brand under a larger international umbrella while maintaining its strong presence and manufacturing footprint within the Nordic market.
