The Grüner Punkt (Green Dot) is the license symbol of Der Grüne Punkt – Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD). It was founded in 1990 as the first dual system in Germany to manage the collection and recycling of packaging waste. The logo is one of the most recognized environmental trademarks in the world, signifying that the manufacturer of the packaging has paid a financial contribution to a national packaging recovery organization. It does not necessarily mean the packaging itself is recyclable, but rather that the manufacturer participates in the system.
Today, the system is part of a larger international movement. While it originated in Germany, the Green Dot trademark is now used in many countries through the PRO Europe organization. In 2022, the company was acquired by the circular economy specialist Circular Resources, ensuring its continued operation as a leader in sustainable plastic recycling and waste management technologies.
