Suburbia is a well-known Mexican department store chain that specializes in apparel, footwear, and accessories for the whole family. Originally established in 1970 in Mexico City, the brand was created to provide accessible fashion to the Mexican middle class.
Over the decades, Suburbia became a staple of the Mexican retail landscape. In 2017, the brand underwent a significant ownership change when El Puerto de Liverpool, S.A.B. de C.V., the leading department store operator in Mexico, acquired the chain from Walmart de México y Centroamérica. While many garments are manufactured in Mexico to support local industry and maintain supply chain efficiency, various private labels within the store may also source production from other countries such as China or Vietnam depending on the specific product line.
