Saeco Intelia coffee machine

Saeco is a historic Italian brand celebrated for being the pioneer of the first fully automatic espresso machine for home use in 1985. The brand originated in Gaggio Montano, Italy, founded by Sergio Zappella and Arthur Schmed. Since its inception, Saeco has become a global household name for high-quality, automated coffee brewing.

In 2009, the brand was acquired by the Dutch multinational Philips to enhance its domestic appliances portfolio. While many of their high-end models, such as the Intelia series, were traditionally manufactured in Italy to preserve their heritage and quality standards, some production components or entry-level lines have been managed through Philips' global supply chain in other regions. In 2021, the brand's ultimate ownership transitioned to Hillhouse Capital through the acquisition of Philips' Domestic Appliances business, now operating under the company name Versuni.
