Stabilo brand origin dates back to 1855 in Nuremberg, Germany, when the Schwan Pencil Company was established. The brand known today as Stabilo was formally registered in the early 20th century. It became globally famous for its innovation in stationery, particularly with the introduction of the Stabilo Boss highlighter in 1971, which revolutionized the way people mark text.
Manufacturing takes place across several strategic locations, with the core production facilities located in Weißenburg, Bavaria (Germany), as well as significant international plants in the Czech Republic and Malaysia for various pen types and global distribution.
Stabilo is owned by the Schwan-STABILO Group, a family-owned multinational holding company. The group is headquartered in Heroldsberg, Germany, and operates through three distinct divisions: Writing Instruments (Stabilo), Cosmetics (Schwan Cosmetics), and Outdoor (Deuter, Ortovox, Maier Sports, and Gonso). The company remains under the ownership of the founding Schwanhäußer family.
