Esselte is a heritage brand in the office supplies industry, originally founded in Sweden in 1913. It became world-renowned for its filing systems and organizational tools. Over the decades, the brand underwent various acquisitions, eventually becoming part of the global portfolio of ACCO Brands Corporation.

While the brand has European roots and maintaining a strong administrative and distributive presence in Spain (under Esselte S.A. in Barcelona), the manufacturing of stationery consumables like staples is primarily outsourced to China. This allows for high-volume production while maintaining European quality standards. ACCO Brands, the ultimate owner, is an American multi-national company that manages several major office brands including Leitz, Rapid, and Swingline.
