United Petroleum is a major Australian independent petrol retailer and convenience store company. Founded in 1981 by Avi Silver and Eddie Hirsch, the brand grew from a single service station in South Melbourne into a national network that competes directly with major global oil companies. The company is known for its vertical integration and its focus on discount fuel prices across Australia.

While United Petroleum is an Australian company, the fuel it sells is sourced from various global refineries. Most fuel sold in Australia is imported as refined product from hubs like Singapore, Japan, and South Korea, following the closure of several domestic refineries. United Petroleum operates its own terminals and shipping infrastructure to manage this supply chain independently.

The brand remains under the private ownership of its original founders through the United Petroleum Group. In recent years, the company has expanded its portfolio to include ethanol production through its Dalby Bio-Refinery and has ventured into the international market, most notably establishing a significant presence in Sri Lanka via United Petroleum Lanka, which holds a license to operate hundreds of retail outlets in the country.
