Alpro is a pioneering European brand specializing in plant-based food and drink products. Founded in Belgium in 1980, it initially focused on soy-based products before expanding into almond, oat, coconut, and hazelnut alternatives. The brand's products are widely distributed across Europe and are known for their focus on health and sustainability.
Manufacturing for Alpro occurs across several dedicated plant-based facilities in Europe, including major sites in Wevelgem (Belgium), Issenheim (France), and Kettering (United Kingdom). This distributed manufacturing network allows the brand to serve various regional markets efficiently while maintaining its specialized production standards for dairy-free products.
Regarding ownership, Alpro has transitioned through several corporate hands. Originally established as a subsidiary of the Vandemoortele Group, it was later acquired by WhiteWave Foods. In 2017, the global food giant Danone completed the acquisition of WhiteWave, bringing Alpro under its umbrella. Today, Alpro remains a flagship brand in Danone's plant-based portfolio, managed from Danone's headquarters in France.
