J.R. Watkins is a heritage apothecary brand founded in 1868 by Joseph Ray Watkins in Plainview, Minnesota. Originally known for its medical liniments and extracts, the brand expanded into a wide range of home care and personal care products over its long history.

The brand has remained deeply rooted in North American tradition, maintaining much of its aesthetic from its origins in the late 19th century. In 2018, the home care and personal care lines were acquired by Swander Pace Capital, while the food and extracts division remained under Watkins Wellness. Today, the personal care products are produced primarily in the United States, emphasizing natural ingredients like shea butter and cocoa butter to appeal to modern clean-beauty standards.
