Volotea Airlines

Volotea is a prominent Spanish low-cost carrier founded in 2011 by Carlos Muñoz and Lázaro Ros, who were also the founders of Vueling. The airline is headquartered in Barcelona, Spain, and was established with the strategic goal of connecting small and mid-sized European cities through direct flights without passing through major hubs.

Since its first flight from Venice Marco Polo Airport in 2012, Volotea has expanded rapidly, maintaining major bases across Spain, France, Italy, and Greece. The company operates a modern fleet consisting primarily of Airbus A320 family aircraft, having fully retired its Boeing 717 fleet to streamline operations.

While privately held, Volotea’s ownership structure includes significant investment from private equity firms. The airline remains an independent entity under the leadership of its original founders, positioned as one of the fastest-growing independent airlines in Europe, focusing on service quality and regional connectivity that was previously underserved by traditional flag carriers.
