Sanyo is a legendary Japanese brand that played a pivotal role in the global expansion of consumer electronics. Originally founded in 1947 by Toshio Iue, a former employee of Matsushita (which later became Panasonic), the brand became famous for its radios, cassette players, and household appliances.
Following a period of financial restructuring and industry shifts, Sanyo Electrics was acquired by the Panasonic Corporation in 2009. Historically, Sanyo products were manufactured in Japan, but most modern portable consumer electronics under the brand name are produced in China. In some regions, the Sanyo brand name is licensed to third-party manufacturers for specific product categories like televisions or small appliances, though the ultimate intellectual property belongs to Panasonic.
