Chiquita is one of the most recognized fruit brands globally, with a history dating back to the late 19th century in the United States and Central America. Its Bio Organic line, as seen on this label from Ecuador, represents the brand's commitment to sustainable agricultural practices within the European organic certification framework.
Historically known as the United Fruit Company, the brand rebranded to Chiquita Brands International in 1984. The product in the image was packed for the Italian market but originated from Ecuador, a major hub for Chiquita's tropical fruit supply chain. Since 2015, the company has transitioned from being a public entity to a private ownership structure.
Currently, Chiquita is owned by a joint venture between two Brazilian giants: the Cutrale Group and the Safra Group. This acquisition integrated one of the world's leading banana distributors into a larger portfolio of global agribusiness and financial interests, with key corporate operations managed out of Switzerland for the European market.
