Mepal is a renowned Dutch brand specializing in high-quality food storage, kitchen equipment, and portable dining solutions. Founded in 1950 by Egon Wolff, the company initially gained popularity for its durable melamine products. The brand's design philosophy centers on sustainability, functionality, and timeless aesthetics, aiming to provide solutions that make everyday life easier and reduce the need for single-use plastics.
While many global kitchenware brands moved their manufacturing processes to Asia to reduce costs, Mepal has maintained a significant production footprint in the Netherlands, specifically in the town of Lochem. This local production strategy allows the brand to maintain high quality control, manage its carbon footprint, and uphold the 'Made in Holland' reputation for design and durability.
Regarding its ownership, Mepal underwent a significant transition in 2021 when it was acquired from HAL Investments by the investment firm Pentahold. The brand continues to operate as an independent entity under this ownership, focusing on expanding its international presence while staying true to its Dutch industrial design heritage. Today, Mepal remains a leader in the segment of reusable lunchboxes, water bottles, and smart storage systems for modern kitchens.
