S-O-S, standing for 'Save Our Saucepans', is a renowned brand of steel wool soap pads. Originally invented in 1917 by Ed Cox, a cooking utensil salesman in San Francisco, California, the pads were created as a way to help his customers keep their pans shiny.
Initially part of the S.O.S Company, the brand changed hands several times through history. It was famously owned by General Foods and later Miles Laboratories. Today, the brand is owned and manufactured by The Clorox Company, which acquired the line in 1994. The product remains a staple in American households for heavy-duty kitchen cleaning and is primarily produced in manufacturing facilities within the United States.
