Azul is a highly acclaimed tile-placement board game designed by Michael Kiesling. The game's aesthetic is inspired by Portuguese 'azulejos' (circular and geometric tiles), reflecting the cultural heritage of Portugal and the Moorish influence. Despite its Portuguese visual theme, the brand and original publishing house are rooted in the tabletop gaming industry of North America and Europe.
The game was originally published by Plan B Games, a Canadian company. In 2021, the French board game giant Asmodee Group acquired Plan B Games, making Asmodee the ultimate owner. Most physical copies of the game sold worldwide are manufactured in China, which is standard for the global tabletop gaming industry. In Brazil, the game is localized and distributed by Galápagos Jogos, which is also a subsidiary of the Asmodee Group.
