Coffee is a globally consumed beverage derived from the roasted seeds of the Coffea plant. Historically, the brand 'Koffie' (the Dutch word for coffee) refers to a broad category rather than a single trademarked entity, though many historical Dutch companies such as Douwe Egberts have dominated the sector since the 18th century.

Coffee production primarily takes place in tropical regions known as the Bean Belt, including Brazil, Vietnam, Colombia, and Ethiopia. The manufacturing process involves harvesting the cherries, processing the beans to remove the fruit, and roasting them to develop flavor. The ultimate ownership of major coffee brands is often concentrated in large multinational conglomerates like JDE Peet's or Nestlé, which manage global supply chains and distribution networks to ensure coffee reaches consumers worldwide.
