Via is one of Sweden's most established laundry detergent brands, with a history dating back to 1957. It was originally developed at the Sunlight factory in Nyköping, Sweden, as the first low-sudsing synthetic detergent specifically designed for modern front-loading washing machines. Today, the brand is part of the global Unilever portfolio.
While the brand has deep Swedish roots, its manufacturing has largely transitioned to centralized European facilities. Much of the production for the Nordic market occurs in the Netherlands, though specific product variants may be sourced from other European plants. Within Unilever's global architecture, Via is essentially the Swedish branding for the formulation sold as Omo, Persil (in certain regions), or Skip elsewhere, sharing technology and innovation resources with these international sister brands.
Ownership remains with Unilever, a British multinational consumer goods giant. The brand continues to lead the Swedish market by focusing on sustainability, including biodegradable ingredients and recycled packaging, maintaining its position through local partnerships and environmental certifications like the Nordic Swan Ecolabel.
