DPD, originally founded as Deutscher Paketdienst in 1976 by a consortium of German freight forwarders, has evolved into one of Europe's leading parcel delivery networks. The brand's journey from a German domestic service to an international powerhouse was accelerated by its 2001 acquisition by GeoPost, a subsidiary of the French state-owned postal service, La Poste Groupe.
In 2023, the parent organization rebranded its corporate identity from DPDgroup to Geopost to better represent its global scale and diversified services, though the DPD consumer brand remains unchanged on delivery vehicles and packaging. Today, the company operates a vast network across more than 50 countries, utilizing a mix of direct subsidiaries and franchise partners. Its manufacturing presence is decentralized, with local hubs and fleets tailored to specific regional markets, maintaining a strong emphasis on sustainable logistics and electric delivery solutions as it looks toward 2040 climate neutrality goals.
