Young’s Seafood is one of the United Kingdom's most historic and prominent seafood brands, with its roots tracing back to Greenwich in 1805. Initially started by Elizabeth Young as an oyster-selling business, it has evolved over two centuries into a leader in the frozen and chilled seafood market. The Mariner’s Pie featured here is a classic British frozen ready meal, traditionally produced in Grimsby, Lincolnshire, which serves as the heart of the UK's fish processing industry.
Ownership of the brand has changed hands several times in the 21st century. Following its acquisition by various private equity firms, Young’s Seafood was acquired in 2019 by Karro Food Group, leading to the formation of the Eight Fifty Food Group. In 2021, the entire group was acquired by Sofina Foods, a large Canadian food processing company. Consequently, while the brand remains quintessentially British in heritage and manufacturing, its ultimate corporate ownership is based in Canada.
