Nexen Tire is a leading global tire manufacturer that traces its roots back to 1942, originally established as Heung-A Tire Co. in South Korea. The company underwent a significant rebranding in 2000, changing its name to Nexen Tire—a portmanteau of 'next' and 'century'—to reflect its commitment to innovation and future-oriented technology.
The global manufacturing footprint of Nexen includes its main hubs in Yangsan and Changnyeong, South Korea, alongside a large-scale plant in Qingdao, China. To serve European markets more efficiently, the company opened a state-of-the-art automated manufacturing facility in Žatec, Czech Republic. While major R&D occurs in South Korea, the company maintains technical centers in the USA and Germany to tailor its products to local driving conditions.
Nexen remains an independent publicly traded entity listed on the Korea Stock Exchange. It is largely controlled by the founding Kang family through Nexen Corporation, which serves as the holding company for various industrial interests including tire production and rubber materials.
