Bissell is a historic American floor care brand that traces its origins back to 1876 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The brand was founded by Melville Bissell after he invented a carpet sweeper to manage sawdust in the family's crockery shop. Following his death, his wife Anna Bissell took over, becoming America's first female CEO and successfully expanding the brand internationally, even securing a royal endorsement from Queen Victoria.

While the company remains headquartered in Walker, Michigan, and is still a privately held, family-owned business, its manufacturing operations are global. Most of its electronic products, such as vacuum cleaners, steam mops, and robotic cleaners, are manufactured in Asian countries including China, Vietnam, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Taiwan. However, the company continues to produce many of its cleaning formulas and chemical solutions within the United States and the United Kingdom.
