Anchor is one of the world's most iconic dairy brands, originating in New Zealand in 1886. It was founded by Henry Reynolds, who established a factory in Pukekohe with the aim of creating a high-quality export butter. The brand's signature anchor logo has since become synonymous with premium dairy products globally.

Today, the brand operates under a unique ownership and licensing structure. While the Anchor brand is globally owned by Fonterra Co-operative Group, a major New Zealand dairy co-operative, the rights to manufacture and market Anchor butter in the United Kingdom were licensed to Arla Foods. This arrangement has been in place for several decades, allowing the product to be produced locally using British milk.

Consequently, the Anchor butter sold in British supermarkets, such as Morrisons, is proudly made in the United Kingdom (specifically at the Arla dairy in Westbury, Wiltshire) using 100% British cream. This ensures that while the brand retains its international heritage, it supports the local British agricultural sector and maintains a low carbon footprint through domestic production.
