Fisher & Paykel is a heritage appliance brand that originated in New Zealand. Founded in 1934 by Sir Woolf Fisher and Maurice Paykel, the company initially focused on importing appliances before transitioning into manufacturing its own innovative designs. Over the decades, it became renowned for high-end engineering, particularly its ActiveSmart refrigeration and DishDrawer dishwasher technology.
In 2012, the company underwent a major ownership change when it was acquired by the Haier Group, a global home appliance giant based in China. While the brand maintains its design and engineering headquarters in Dunedin and Auckland, New Zealand, the majority of its large-scale manufacturing has been moved offshore. Today, Fisher & Paykel products are primarily manufactured in Haier-owned facilities in China, Thailand, and Italy to serve global markets including Australia and North America.
Under Haier's ownership, Fisher & Paykel operates as a premium subsidiary, focusing on luxury kitchen and laundry solutions. The brand continues to leverage its New Zealand design roots while benefiting from the massive manufacturing and supply chain infrastructure of its Chinese parent company.
