Hotel Chocolat is a premium British chocolatier and cocoa grower, uniquely positioned as one of the few chocolate brands in the world to grow their own cocoa. The brand was founded in the United Kingdom by Angus Thirlwell and Peter Harris, starting as a chocolate club before opening its first retail store in North London in 2004.
Most of the company's manufacturing takes place in Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire, UK, where their dedicated factory produces a wide range of luxury truffles, slabs, and gift boxes. The brand is famous for its 'More Cocoa, Less Sugar' philosophy and its sustainable cocoa farming practices at its Rabot Estate plantation in Saint Lucia.
In late 2023, the brand underwent a significant ownership change. Following a successful acquisition, Hotel Chocolat is now part of the Mars, Incorporated family. This acquisition was aimed at accelerating the brand's international expansion and leveraging Mars' global supply chain expertise while maintaining Hotel Chocolat's high standards of quality and ethical sourcing.
