Telefunken is a historic German radio and television brand, originally established in 1903 as a joint venture between Siemens & Halske and AEG. Over the decades, it became a pioneer in wireless communications and television technology. In the late 20th century, the original company was dismantled, and the brand name was sold and licensed.
Today, the Telefunken brand is owned by Telefunken Licenses GmbH, which manages a global licensing model. Manufacturing of Telefunken-branded products, such as the television shown in the image, is typically outsourced to third-party manufacturers. In the European market, particularly for televisions, many units are manufactured by the Turkish electronics giant Vestel under a licensing agreement. Because of this licensing structure, production occurs in multiple countries, most notably Turkey for the European and Mediterranean markets.
