Alpro is a pioneering brand in the plant-based food and beverage sector, originally founded in Belgium in 1980 as a subsidiary of the Vandemoortele Group. It specializes in dairy alternatives made from soy, almonds, hazelnuts, cashew, rice, oats, and coconut. This specific product is a roasted almond drink with no added sugars, marketed towards health-conscious consumers and those with dairy intolerances.
Over the decades, Alpro underwent several ownership changes. It was acquired by the American company WhiteWave Foods in 2009. In 2017, the global food giant Danone completed the acquisition of WhiteWave Foods (then known as Danone North America in the US), making Alpro a key part of Danone's plant-based portfolio.
Today, Alpro products are manufactured across several European locations to serve different markets. Primary production facilities are located in Wevelgem (Belgium), Issenheim (France), and Kettering (United Kingdom). The brand remains headquartered in Ghent, Belgium, while its ultimate parent company, Danone, is based in Paris, France.
