The Majak (meaning 'Lighthouse') crystal table clock is a classic example of Soviet-era design and craftsmanship, produced primarily during the 1960s and 1970s. These clocks are renowned for their heavy faceted crystal casings, which often resemble a sunburst or flower, and their distinct mechanical movements. The particular model shown features a vibrant red-brown face with gold lettering and the characteristic markings indicating its production in the USSR.
Manufactured by the Serdobsk Clock Factory (Сердобский часовой завод) in the Penza region of Russia, these clocks were a staple of interior decoration in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union. While the factory itself went through significant changes and eventually ceased production of these iconic mechanical clocks following the dissolution of the USSR, the Majak brand remains a highly collectible name in the vintage horology market today. Because the original state-owned factory no longer exists in its historical form, ownership of the legacy brand is fragmented or considered public domain in the context of vintage goods.
