Vileda is a premier global brand in the cleaning industry, established in 1948 in Weinheim, Germany. The brand's origins trace back to the mid-1940s within the Freudenberg Group, where employees noticed that non-woven textile scraps were being used effectively as cleaning rags. This observation led to the development of the first Vileda Window Cloth, named after the German phrase 'wie Leder' (like leather) because of its unique chamois-like texture.
Today, Vileda is owned by Freudenberg Home and Cleaning Solutions (FHCS) GmbH, a division of the family-owned Freudenberg Group. The brand has expanded its portfolio significantly beyond its original cloths to include mops, brooms, sponges, and electronic cleaning robots. While its headquarters and many innovation centers remain in Germany, Vileda's manufacturing footprint is truly global, with production facilities located in Germany, Italy, Poland, the Czech Republic, China, and Canada to serve various international markets.
