ARTE TV

ARTE (Association Relative à la Télévision Européenne) is a unique European cultural television channel and digital network. Established on October 2, 1990, via an interstate treaty between France and eleven German federal states, it was created with the mission to promote cultural integration and understanding between European citizens.

The headquarters of ARTE is located in Strasbourg, France, strategically positioned on the border with Germany to symbolize its binational nature. The channel is distinguished by its high-quality cultural programming, which is broadcast primarily in French and German, but also offers subtitles across various digital platforms in English, Spanish, Polish, and Italian. It is funded through the television license fee in France and Germany, remaining free from commercial advertising.

Ownership is split equally between French and German counterparts. The French pillar is ARTE France, and the German pillar is ARTE Deutschland TV GmbH. This structure ensures that both nations have an equal voice in the editorial direction and management of the network, making it a hallmark of Franco-German cooperation in the media sector.
