Tayto is an iconic Irish snack brand, deeply rooted in the history of the Republic of Ireland. Founded in May 1954 by Joe 'Spud' Murphy, Tayto is famously credited with inventing the world's first cheese and onion flavored crisp, a revolution that changed the snack industry globally. The brand is instantly recognizable by its mascot, Mr. Tayto, which has become a cultural symbol in Ireland.
The product is primarily manufactured at Tayto Park (now known as Emerald Park) in Ashbourne, County Meath, Ireland. In 2006, the brand was acquired from C&C Group by Largo Foods, which later became Tayto Snacks. Today, the brand is under the ultimate ownership of the Intersnack Group, a major European snack food manufacturer headquartered in Germany. Despite international ownership, Tayto maintains its distinct Irish identity and manufacturing base, remaining a staple of Irish domestic consumer culture.
