Alpen is a pioneering brand in the breakfast cereal category, specifically known for introducing Swiss-style muesli to the United Kingdom and global markets. The recipe was originally inspired by the Swiss physician Maximilian Bircher-Benner as a health-focused meal.
The brand was launched in 1971 by the British cereal manufacturer Weetabix Limited. While its branding evokes the imagery of the Swiss Alps, the product is primarily manufactured in the United Kingdom, specifically at the Weetabix mills in Burton Latimer, Northamptonshire.
Today, the brand is owned by Post Holdings, Inc., an American consumer packaged goods holding company that acquired Weetabix from a Chinese state-owned enterprise in 2017. Despite the American ownership, the brand maintains its strong British heritage and primary production facilities in the UK.
