Verkade is a quintessential Dutch biscuit and chocolate brand with a history dating back to 1886. Founded by Ericus Gerhardus Verkade in Zaandam, it started as a steam-powered bread and rusk bakery before expanding into global staples like biscuits and chocolate. For many in the Netherlands, the brand is synonymous with local craftsmanship and tradition. While the brand was family-owned for generations and then underwent various mergers, it is currently part of a global confectionery portfolio. Since 2014, Verkade has been owned by Pladis, a UK-based company that is a subsidiary of the Turkish holding company Yıldız Holding. Despite this international ownership, much of the production remains rooted in the original Dutch factory in Zaandam, ensuring the product retains its authentic heritage and connection to its birthplace. This Choco Wafel Karamel is part of their modern snacking line, blending traditional wafer textures with caramel and Dutch chocolate expertise.
