The product was first developed at the Perstorp industrial plants in the town of Perstorp, Sweden. For over a century, the production remained closely tied to the chemical innovations of the site, which eventually evolved into a global specialty chemicals company. Despite changes in corporate structural focus, the production of Perstorp Ättika continues to be based in Sweden to maintain its heritage and quality standards.

In terms of brand management and ownership, the consumer product line was eventually separated from the industrial chemical operations. In 2013, the brand was acquired by O. Kavli AB, a subsidiary of the Kavli Group.
