In October 2022, the brand underwent a massive shift in ownership when it was acquired by entrepreneur Elon Musk. Following the acquisition, the company was merged into X Corp., a subsidiary of X Holdings Corp. The rebranding to 'X' represents a strategic move to transform the platform into an 'everything app' encompassing social networking, financial services, and multimedia content. Despite the transition, its primary development and operational hubs remain centered in the United States.
