Škoda Auto, commonly known as Škoda, is one of the world's oldest automobile manufacturers, with a heritage dating back to 1895. Originally founded as Laurin & Klement in Mladá Boleslav, Kingdom of Bohemia (now the Czech Republic), the company began by manufacturing bicycles and motorcycles before transitioning to automobile production in 1905.

Following its nationalization during the socialist era, Škoda underwent a significant transformation in the early 1990s when it was privatized and gradually acquired by the Volkswagen Group. This partnership provided the technological and financial investment necessary to reposition Škoda as a major international player, known for its "Simply Clever" design philosophy and high value-for-money proposition.

Today, Škoda remains headquartered in the Czech Republic, where its primary manufacturing plants are located. However, as a global brand within the Volkswagen Group portfolio, production has expanded to several international markets including China, India, and Slovakia to meet regional demand. The brand functions as a wholly-owned subsidiary of the German conglomerate Volkswagen AG, benefiting from shared platforms and mechanical components across the group's various marques.
