Freixenet sparkling wine

Freixenet is one of the world's most recognized names in sparkling wine, particularly famous for its Cava produced in the Penedès region of Catalonia, Spain. The brand's history dates back to 1861 with the founding of the Sala family business, but the Freixenet name was officially established in 1911 following the marriage of Pedro Ferrer and Dolores Sala Vivé.

While the iconic black bottle of Cordon Negro remains its flagship product made in Spain, Freixenet has expanded its production footprint globally to include regions in Italy (for Prosecco), France (for Champagne), and the Americas. This international expansion solidified its position as a global leader in the sparkling wine market.

In 2018, a significant shift in ownership occurred when the German company Henkell & Co. Sektkellerei KG (the sparkling wine branch of the Oetker Group) acquired a majority stake in Freixenet. This merger created the Henkell Freixenet group, which remains the ultimate owner. The company is headquartered in Wiesbaden, Germany, under the parent umbrella of the Dr. August Oetker KG conglomerate.
