Lotus Biscoff Spread is a creamy caramelised spread made from the original Belgian Speculoos cookies. The brand’s history dates back to 1932 when baker Jan Boone Sr. created a unique biscuit using only natural ingredients in Lembeke, Belgium. He named it 'Lotus' after the flower that symbolizes purity.

Over the decades, the biscuit became a staple in European coffee culture. The idea for the spread actually originated from a Dutch reality television show 'The Inventors' (De Bedenkers) in 2007, where applicant Els Scheppers created a recipe using the crushed biscuits. Lotus Bakeries then worked with her to develop and bring the product to the global market. Today, the product is still primarily manufactured in Belgium to maintain its original quality and flavor profile.

The brand is owned by Lotus Bakeries, a family-owned Belgian company that has grown into a major international snack player. They remain headquartered in Belgium and continue to manage the global distribution of the Biscoff range, which has expanded from simple biscuits into spreads, ice cream, and sandwich cookies.
