Hansano is a traditional North German brand with a history dating back to the foundation of the Hansa-Meierei in Lübeck in 1900. Originally a regional cooperative, the brand was officially registered in 1963 and became a household name across Northern Germany, from the North Sea coast to Vorpommern. Its products are deeply rooted in the regional landscape, often featuring slogans like "Echt gut. Wie der Norden" (Really good. Like the North).

Since 2011, Hansano has been part of the international dairy cooperative Arla Foods amba following a merger with Hansa-Milch Mecklenburg-Holstein eG. While the brand remains focused on serving the North German market with local favorites like fresh milk, buttermilk, and quark, it is now integrated into Arla's global logistics and sustainability frameworks.

Manufacturing primarily takes place in Germany, with the main production facility located in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. This site has served as the brand's heart since 1995, processing milk from hundreds of dairy farms across the Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg regions to maintain its "fresh from the neighborhood" promise.
